Fashion Disasters of 2008

Paris Hilton makes sure she's always the center of attention in getups like this one.

Anne Hathaway and Julianne Hough topped "The Thread's" list of the best dressed celebs of 2008. Now, it's time to focus on some of the year's biggest fashion offenders, like Paris Hilton, whose wacky ensembles seem to scream that she's desperate for attention!

Host Sarah Bernard also highlights some of the worst fashion trends of 2008, including wearing your man's baggy jeans. Not a good look -- even if you're Katie Holmes.

Madonna, biggest 2008 N. American tour attraction

Madonna's "Sticky & Sweet" concert tour was the biggest-grossing music tour of 2008 in North America, raking in $105.3 million, concert tracking magazine Pollstar said on Monday.

The Material Girl, whose 58-show world tour finished in Brazil last week, was closely followed by another solo diva -- Canadian-born Celine Dion, who made $94 million in North America from her first tour since ending an almost five-year residency in Las Vegas a year ago.

Rock veterans The Eagles were third on Pollstar's list, grossing $73.4 million for their tour to support possibly their last studio album "Long Road out of Eden".

Country music star Kenny Chesney ($72.2 million) and rock band Bon Jovi ($70.4 million) came in fourth and fifth.

The Top 10 grossing tours of North America were rounded out by Bruce Springsteen and the E street band ($69.3 million), Neil Diamond ($59.8 million), Rascal Flatts ($55.8 million), The Police ($48.0 million) and veteran rocker Tina Turner ($47.7 million).

Pollstar's Top 10 list did not include global tour earnings for the year.

Miss Asia Beauty Contest Report

A Hong Kong television company behind the annual Miss Asia beauty contest has admitted the final outcome did not match the real tally of public votes, a local newspaper reported Tuesday.

The 2008 Miss Asia champion Eunis Yao reacts after winning the honor at the finals of the 2008 Miss Asia pageant in Hong Kong on December 7, 2008.

The Miss Asia Pageant held earlier this month used public voting for the first time in its 20-year history, instead of the traditional panel of judges, and people sent in their choice via text message and on the Internet.

Last year, the BBC was forced to suspend several members of staff after it admitted fixing the winners of phone-ins and interactive competitions on six shows including charity appeals and children's programmes.

The embarrassment for ATV comes amid a leadership flap, as Cheung said the company's controversial chief executive Ricky Wong had resigned.

However, Wong insisted a few hours later that he had not resigned and had not been notified of any such developments, the Post said.

Ancient style involves in fashion design

Thinking of lingerie and intimate apparel may evoke images of bras that hardly keep ladies covered and barely-there underwear.

Donning modern-day lingerie means putting everything on display and showing off a woman's shape in its most flattering way.

In ancient China, though, a curvy figure was considered a temptation and a sin, so women were left with few choices of outer clothes and were strictly governed by status. The underwear then became a unique channel for women to let out their romantic passion and over thousands of years, Chinese women developed various styles of underwear with amazing craftsmanship and ingenious designs.

To illustrate the use of old-time Chinese lingerie in today's world, a fashion design competition calling for inspiration from ancient Chinese lingerie elements was held by the China Fashion Association and Ordifen International Group.

Chinese water paintings, minority embroidery, Chinese red phoenix and cloud patterns, ceramics and Hanfu (the traditional dress of the Han Chinese) inspired ideas from about 800 designers from China, the UK and Japan.

Street Fighter,The Legend of Chun-Li

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li is entering its second week of production, as hard as that is to believe, and they have a short blurb on their “blog” (slash marketing tool) with screenwriter Justin Marks. He drops gems about the “lack of a plot in the movie” like “But any true fan of Street Fighter knows about its rich world, its colorful palette of characters, and complicated web of varying interests and betrayals. No story? You’re just not paying attention.”

Well, we were paying attention, back in 1987 when the video game came out. But it’s 20 years since then, and it seems fairly doubtful that anyone is going to care about this next live-action Street Fighter movie, 14 years after the Van Damme, Raul Julia flick. Hell, we’re still waiting on a good Zaxxon movie, and before that even sees the light of day, what about Pitfall? One of the biggest fears I have about this movie (other than being forced to watch it over and over in hell) is that it’ll make Mortal Kombat actually look like a great movie. Actually, now that I think about it, it wasn’t that bad.

Marks goes on to compare the world of Street Fighter to that of X-Men, but I just ain’t buying it. We’ve had 40 years of X-Men comics to provide a gigantic world to draw interesting characters from, but there have only been like what, seven Street Fighter games? Now, if this was Street Fighter: Ken vs. Ryu, then we might be paying more attention, especially for the sheer amount of times they’d be yelling HADOUKEN! throughout the thing. Oh, they also offer up an exclusive image of Robin Shou as Gen, pictured below. Who? Wha? Bring on some shots of Kristin Kreuk as Chun Li, already.
